Dennis grew up in San Diego,
and has been around cars all his life. Dennis's Dad and uncles were always working on dune buggies and jeeps, and
in 1964 Dennis helped put a 283 Corvette engine in the families CJ3A. Dennis participated in his first drag race at
Carlsbad Raceway, winning the 1st place trophy with his 1964 4 speed Falcon Sprint. Dennis spent most of the 70's
and 80's in the Glamis sand dunes, while still attending the Winter Nationals and World Finals at Pomona almost every
year. Dennis returned to quarter mile action in 1988 with the car pictured here. Dennis formed Evans Racing in
1996 with his two sons, Neil and Randy, and since 2000 the team has carried the Jerry's Nugget brand on the sides of their
race cars.
Dennis has lived in Las Vegas since 1990, and while a carpenter by trade, these days handles
estimating and project management for one of the largest commercial framing companies in Las Vegas. The team relies
on a close knit group of friends at the track. Neil's wife Polly races a ZZ4 powered Chevy Luv, Neil's father-in-law
Scott Horsley races a 1955 Chevy he has owned since 1969, and grand son Jacob Evans started racing this year (2007) in Junior
Dragster. Ian MacKenzie, Dave Loucks, Danny Glock and Randy Evens help out between rounds. In addition to Jerry's
Nugget, the team receives support from Chick's Wheel and Brake Service, Sign-A-Rama of Henderson, NV, Happy's Mobile
Car Wash, 4 Wall Entertainment and Lighting and TRC Inc.
